A lagoon left to itself
North of Ault, on the way to Cayeux-sur-Mer, the Hâble d’Ault is a former lagoon separated from the sea by a fragile bank of shingle. This wild landscape of pools and marshes is among the most unspoilt on the Picardy coast.
A paradise for birds
The site is a major bird reserve, where close to 300 species come and go with the migration seasons: swans, herons, egrets, stilts and many more. It is a favourite spot for naturalists.
Visiting advice
- Bring binoculars so you can watch without disturbing the wildlife.
- Keep to the paths and respect the quiet of the place.
- The best sightings come early in the morning or at the end of the day.
