Seaside charm of another era
Full of character, the seaside resort of Cayeux-sur-Mer unrolls one of the longest shingle beaches in Europe. Its emblematic boardwalk, a long ribbon of timber lined with colourful beach huts, invites a stroll facing the Channel. All around, shingle, dunes and salt meadows make up the unspoilt countryside typical of the Picardy coast.
What to see and do
- Stroll the boardwalk and its row of colourful beach huts.
- Try sand yachting on the wide beach at low tide.
- Carry on to the Brighton-les-Pins lighthouse, the resort’s red-and-white emblem.
- Head for the nearby Hâble d’Ault, then the Pointe du Hourdel and its seals.
Making the most of it
Wear sturdy shoes: shingle makes for demanding walking. Spring and summer give the finest light on the boardwalk. Twelve kilometres from the hotel (a 20-minute drive), Cayeux combines easily with a nature outing in the bay.
